First Aid for Burns, Scalds, and Heat-Related Trauma
When the skin comes in contact with the substance or the object having temperature more the 120 degree the skin can be burnt by the object and the substance while the scalds are the form of burning coming in contact with the any liquid of the steam more hot then the 120 F. A number of instances occur in one’s life, no matter the burn is of a single finger even and need the first aid. The aid can be depending on the severity of the burning. Proper and timely aid could reduce the severity of the burns. Chemical burns are the most hazardous as they would keep burning the skin till then they aren’t removed from the skin. Acids, alkalis, phenols, and phosphorus could cause the burns. Electrical instruments can also burn your skin as the electricity can be the cause of burning. The treatment of all these burning would be under critical treatment. Keep yourself away from the radiation like the x-ray or the flash or the arc welder as this can also burn your skin as well. Avoid exposing yourself to the radioactive material which occurs very rare though but can cause severe damage to your skin.
The severity of the burning is commonly called with the first second and third degree burns which are being named according to the burning of first second and third layer of the skin respectively. The third degree burns are the most dangerous and serious.
The condition becomes sever the burning is by the combination of the electricity and the chemical or the person burns his throat and couldn’t breath normally or soft tissue damage and fracture or located where the skin bends or with the aged person or having other medical problems like diabetes, mental illness etc. The person burned is also being given with the percentage of the body being burnt like palm is one percent and leg eighteen percent.
A burned person needs intensive care so never sneak cough or touch the patient. And try to avoid any actions which can hurt like breaking the blisters, covering or removing the adhesive stuff from the surface of the skin rather you should always try to assist the burned person as you should be proud in telling that you are first aid trained person and can help the people. Then wash the burns, loosen or remove anything on the surface and cover with the clean dressing. Though burns are the most serious injury but you can reduce the intensity with the proper care.
